INOVA ProductsFraen Corporation Srl started in 2004 to develop integrated optical solutions for fluorescence microscopy, consisting of a unique proprietary illumination system, which can be attached to many standard models of microscopes. INOVA ProductsThe module is designed to attach to a standard bright field microscope in any way. The fluorescence light source is used in transmission mode and will not void any warranties. Bright field microscopy is not affected since the halogen white light function remains intact, which means that transmitted light observation is possible without major changes in the optical configuration.


FluoLED for Autoimmune Diagnostics

INOVA ProductsA fluorescent image of poor quality can lead to inaccurate clinical assumptions and this can result in incorrect diagnosis and improper treatment. Therefore optimized fluorescence microscopy is of major importance in the assessment of autoimmune diseases.

INOVA ProductsFluoLED was developed to provide performance and capability comparable to standard fluorescence microscopy equipment, but with serveral enhancements designed to make the technology accessible to more users, easier to operate and maintain, and significantly smaller.

INOVA ProductsThere are four main aspects of FluoLED that allow it to meet the needs of the autoimmune laboratory, while reducing the complexity of operation

  1. No complex alignment procedure of the light source is required. The LED cassette fits into the microscope adapter without use of any tool: this avoids the risk of poor fluorescence signals due to misalignment of the light source.
  2. The FluoLED LED source reaches maximum efficiency immediately after turning the power on. There is no warm up time and no waiting period for re-starting, so the overall workflow is significantly increased.
  3. FluoLED is cost-effective: consider how many arc lamps are used in 30,000 hours (the typical life time of a solid state source used in FluoLED).
  4. Hg lamps can fail catastrophically. FluoLED avoids the risk of contaminating the laboratory with potentially harmful gases and saves expensive components of the microscope.

FluoLED for Tuberculosis

INOVA ProductsMycobacterium tuberculosis are classified as acid-fast bacteria and most diffused staining method is the Ziehl-Neelsen, where baccilli are observed in transmitted light. Illumination is typically provided by the built-in light source (mainly halogen lamp) or even sunlight relfected by a mirror. This method is relatively complex and requires a microscope equipped with a high magnification lens.

INOVA ProductsA different approach in the detection of mycobacteria uses fluorescence microscopy, which is credited with improved sensitivity; the fluorescent dye Auramine O turns out to be a valid alternative to the tradional Ziehl-Neelsen staining method due to the affinity of the fluorchrome to mycolic acid in the cell walls.

INOVA ProductsAuramine O is excited by blue light and emits in the region from -500nm to -650nm (green-yellow-red); FluoLED Royal Blue light source with a peak at 450nm matches the absorption maximum of Auramine O, thus ensuring an extremely efficient excitation and consequently a good signal-to-noise ratio.
